The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) is mandated by state statute and enforced within Charlotte County by Resolution 2008-070. Charlotte County Human Services Housing Division serves as liaison.
Meeting Schedule
The AHAC meets on the 4th Wednesday in February, April, June, August, and October and the 3rd Wednesday in Dec. at 10 a.m. at the Family Services Center, 21500 Gibralter Dr., Port Charlotte, unless otherwise noted on agenda. For more information, call 941.833.6500.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is December 18, 2024 at 9:00 am. (Additional time needed due to missed October meeting.)
Roles and Responsibilities
The task of the Committee is to make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on county policies affecting the cost of housing. The Committee also approves the county’s Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP) every three years; view the current LHAP. Charlotte HOME
Charlotte HOME (Housing Opportunities Made Easier), an incentive program for affordable housing developers, was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) on July 28, 2020 to reduce barriers and attract developers of affordable housing to Charlotte County.

Charlotte HOME Review Committee
Applications for incentives are reviewed by a panel of representatives from: Community Development; Human Services/Housing; and Utilities. Incentives are determined on a tiered basis contingent upon the score acheived on the Affordable Housing Prioritization Matrix. Tier II, III and IV applications require AHAC and BOCC approval. The Review Committee schedules public meetings to review and score applications for Tier II, III, and IV incentives and subsidies for approval by the AHAC and BOCC, as needed.
